I had read several reviews about this broadhead. It was to be a turning point for the expandables as a whole. Every where I turned people was sayingthis is the best broadhead ever!! It seemed like it too as it was on back order from Keystone Country Store for about four weeks. I was beginning to wonder if they would make it before the 2006 Archery Season started in Virginia.

I ordered two packs one for me and one for Roy and the package came just before I was to leave for Virginia. I was like a five year old at a birthday party and just wanted to open the package but I restained myself and jumped into my truck and started making the drive north to Virginia to start my week long vacation during the first week of Virginia's archery season.

By the time I made it to my final destination it was well past dark so out came the flashlights and the portable target. One good point with the Rage is that it does come with a practice blade so I screwed the practice blade on my arrow and let it rip. Flight and point of impact all looked good and the head definitely lived up to the hype there, so that one star. Now it was time to see if they brought home the bacon..... err venison, ya know what I mean.

I'll spare you all the details but I was completely dissatified with the performance of this head. Maybe I got a bad batch or something but we had issues with the blades not fully deploying which in turn lead to poor blood trails. Also upon further inspection of the broadhead afterwards, the cut-on-contact tip seemed to curl more often than not and the blades had huge dents and dings in them almost as if someone had beat them with a hammer.

BOTTOM LINE - If people are having good luck with the heads and are happy with them... Good on ya.. In my opinion I will not use the Rage broadhead again..This is my opinion and of course opinions vary. The flight characteristics of this head are good but overall I am not very satisfied with the durability of the head. We are all human and from time to time the business end of the arrow comes in contact with bone. I want the confidence in my broadhead that it will crush the bone and continue on its way to do its job, quickly and lethally. I lack that confidence with the Rage. |
